The Environmental Services Providers Association (ESPA) on Friday 6th February, 2015 met officials from Vermeer Manufacturing Company at ESPA’s Head Office- East Legon, Accra. Vermeer Manufacturing Company is an agricultural and industrial equipment manufacturing company based in the Netherlands but has branches around the world. It was founded in 1948 and has a workforce of over 3000 members around the world.
The purpose of the meeting was for Vermeer Manufacturing Company to introduce ESPA members to their compost making equipment and seek business with ESPA members who are interested in composting.
Mr. Ruben De Meijer of Vermeer Manufacturing Company and Mr. Kwame Anani-Korba (Executive Secretary) – Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors of Ghana (A.B.C.E.C.G) represented Vermeer Manufacturing Company at the meeting. The ESPA members at the meeting were Liberty, Asadu, Zoomlion, Waste Landfill, Jekora and Rural waste Ltd. In a presentation, Mr. Ruben De Meijer assured ESPA members high-quality equipment as all their equipment are made to meet European standards. He stated that, Vermeer has different categories of compost making equipment with varied capacities, they are reliable, have local experience and exceptional customer service that distinguish them from other companies. Mr Ruben De Meijer also took the ESPA members through the various steps in composting and the equipment needed at each step. Again, Vermeer will install any equipment bought from them and also train key staff of the purchasing company on how to use the equipment properly.
The meeting generally recognized that, with the difficulties in locating landfill sites in our towns and cities coupled with the increasing rates of waste generation in the country, mechanisms of turning waste into useful end product is a more sustainable way of managing our waste. Vermeer appealed to the members of ESPA who are already into composting and those considering going into composting to source their equipment
