The Accra Chapter Members of the Environmental Services Providers Association (ESPA), on Thursday, 7th May, 2015 held their second meeting at the ESPA secretariat. The meeting chaired by Nana Ama Adobea II was well attended and saw representatives of: Asadu Royal Waste; Gee Waste; J. Stanley-Owusu Co. Ltd.; Daben Cleansing Services; Jekora Ventures and Alliance Waste attending. The rest of the participants were from: Zoomlion Ghana Ltd. (Accra-Zone); Meskworld Co. Ltd.; Yafuru Enterprise; A. B. C. Waste; Liberty Waste Services; Platinum Municipal Services; Waste Landfills Gh. Ltd. and ESPA’s management staff.
The meeting discussed many issues of concern to the association including; how members could benefit from the Profit 2 Project (P2P), being implemented by the Netherlands Development Organization.
Three sub-committees (Editorial, Finance & Funding, and Contract Review Sub-committees) were also launched to commence operations to promote the work and interest of the Accra Chapter and ESPA as a whole. The main task of the three sub-committees are:
- Finance and Funding Sub-committee: – to work closely with the secretariat to attract funding for the Accra Chapter to execute its programmes and activities.
- Contract Review Sub-committee: – to work closely with the secretariat to review Accra Chapter Members’ existing contracts with the AMA and also get the contracts renewed in 2016 with better terms.
- Editorial Sub-committee: – to work closely with the secretariat on media advocacy and publications to project the Accra Chapter work and interest.
Two guests from the Ghana Netherlands WASH Programme (GNWP) Technical Assistance Team, Mr. Robert Quartey and Ms. Marjolein Rem made a presentation on the proposed phase2 projects for the GNWP for ESPA’s input. According to them, the proposed project focusses on three core areas of: Water management, Waste Management, and Tourism for sanitation. The members present asked questions and made inputs on how to improve the proposed projects under the phase2 of the GNWP.
The chair person thanked everyone for attending and participating actively in the meeting in her concluding remarks after which the meeting came to an end.
