Saturday, 1st August, 2015 National Sanitation Day had the Central Region as its focal center. The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) was in the region to coordinate the activities of the NSD in the region as has been the practice for some time now. Media reports showed a massive turnout for the exercise from a wide section of the residents in the region. The Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (Hon. Edwin Nii Lamptey Vanderpuye) however was unimpressed by the attitudes of some residents who were going about their duties rather than participating in the exercise.
Monitoring of the NSD in Accra showed very low level of participation in the exercise. For instance, Zoomlion was the only ESPA member seen actively participating in the exercise at Madina Zongo Junction, providing both equipment and labour. The story is not different from Dome where turnout for the exercise was also very low and Zoomlion the only member participating in the exercise.
