The AMA in partnership with the ESPA has outlined its plans for the Accra Cleanest City Agenda

 

The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Mohammed Adjei Sowah at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday May 9, 2017 announced a number of measures that will culminate in the cleanest city feat.
” Being managers of the city of Accra, the AMA in support of the policy directives of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, we wish to assure the President that we see his vision as realistic and achievable within the time frame and ready to take on the challenge”, he stated.
The mayor, flanked by the Coordinating Director, Mr Sam Ayer Darteh ESPA President, who is also the Executive Chairman of the Jospon Group, Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and the Executive Secretary of ESPA, Ms Ama Ofori Antwi said the AMA would be tough on indiscriminate disposal of all types of waste.


He said the assembly would continue to work with members of the ESPA, and international partners to widen access to convenient, safe, and sustainable and culturally appropriate dignified sanitation facilities and services.
As part of the immediate plans, a new transfer station is going to be commissioned at Achimota, a suburb of Accra to ensure speedy collection and conveyance of solid waste from the city of Accra.
Again, all illegal dumping sites within the AMA would be evacuated and closed permanently.
The assembly will also intensify daily sanitary inspection during which environmental health inspectors will conduct house-to-house, markets and lorry parks inspections.
