In striving to achieve the President’s vision of making Accra for that matter Ghana clean, The Universal Plastic Product and Recycling (UPPR), Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) and EcoBank Ghana launched a social intervention dubbed “ One million waste-bin project” at the conference room of Eco-Bank Ghana on 3rd December 2019.
The project aims to distribute one million waste bins across the country. The project was attended by representatives from Parliament, MMDA’s, government officials, ESPA, Zoomlion and the media.
Series of presentation highlighted the increasing need for every Ghanaian household to owe and use waste bins. In taking turn, the Executive Secretary of the Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA), Ama Ofori Antwi in her solidarity message emphasized that only 3.11% of 5,064,485 households use appropriate solid waste containers based. She was optimistic that, the initiative of distributing bins will, therefore, improve solid waste collection by reducing indiscriminate dumping. She entreated every household to subscribe to access the free bins and also waste management services. On behalf of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, the deputy minister, Hon. Michael Gyato duly launched the project.
The project was funded by Ecobank Ghana from a medium-term loan facility to support the production of waste bins to be distributed across the country.
