The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) participated in the 84th National Level Learning Alliance Platform (NLLAP) organized at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel on 30th January 2020.
The meeting sought to discuss Transition Management application in Water and Sanitation and Hygiene as a new governance approach to improving access to the sustainability of WASH services.
Under the study, various water sources were sampled to test for rotavirus, bacteriological quality, and others. It was evident that about 27 percent of the dug wells tested positive for Rotavirus in the Zongo, Wedokum, Obom and Apperkon communities, where the research was conducted. This was attributed to the close proximity of these water sources to refuse sites.
The group afterward identified and trained some of the representatives of the community to serve as actors to effect behavioral change through drama and jingles and other sensitization programmes on avoiding open defecation, keeping rubbish bins and boiling their water before use.
To this end, the ESPA through the one million Bin (1M Bin) project will work with the T-Group to ensure that every house has access to a bin. Likewise, ESPA will support and intensify sanitation awareness in these communities.
