ESPA participated in an open defaecation-free (ODF) Ghana campaign dubbed Ghana Goes ODF. The event was organized at the College of Physicians and Surgeons on 26th February 2020.
Ghana goes ODF is a social norms campaign against open defaecation and for institutionalizing the hygienic use of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities. The campaign sought to recognize efforts by outstanding professionals and institutions contributing to the fight against open defaecation.
ESPA in partnership with stakeholders’ notably: Government agencies, Development partners, NGO’s, academia, and the media pledged to support advance access to WASH facilities across the country.
ESPA, however, wants to underscore that the fight against open defaecation needs to go beyond the provision of WASH facilities such as toilets (which serves as a means of containment). Additional efforts need to consider investments in liquid waste treatment facilities and value addition streams.
